For Parents and Carers

Plain-language NDIS support for parents and carers who want to know it is working.

NDIS support for parents and carers of young people aged 12 to 20 in Western and South West Sydney. We translate the jargon, treat you as a partner, and send weekly updates so you always know what is happening.

What we hear

What parents and carers tell us.

  • "The NDIS language is exhausting and nothing is written the way normal people talk"
  • "You have tried other providers and they either ghosted you or the mentor did not turn up"
  • "You are worried about your young person and not sure what good support even looks like"
  • "You want to know it is working, not wait until the plan review to find out it was not"
  • "You feel like a passenger in decisions that are being made about your own child"
How we help

What working with SCA looks like.

01

A named contact who answers the phone and knows your young person by name

02

Weekly updates by text, email, or a five-minute call, whichever you actually prefer

03

Plain-language explanations of what your funding covers and how we are using it

04

Mentors chosen with input from you and the young person, not assigned from a spreadsheet

05

Written progress notes and a proper report before every NDIS plan review

06

Support to prepare for plan reviews so you walk in knowing what to ask for

SCA provides NDIS support for parents and carers in Western and South West Sydney raising young people aged 12 to 20 with disability, developmental delay, or a trauma history. We treat you as a partner, not a passenger, and we write and talk in plain English because that is the only kind of language that actually helps.

Our founder Yosmerys Aparicio Cuencas started SCA after years of watching families get lost inside a system that was meant to help them. If you have been told to just read your plan and figure it out, or handed a spreadsheet of line items and left to it, you already know what we are talking about.

What we hear from parents and carers

You are tired. You have chased providers who promised and did not deliver. You have sat in meetings where three professionals talked over each other in acronyms while nobody asked what your young person actually needed. You have watched a mentor no-show and had to be the one who explained it to your kid.

You want to know that someone competent is showing up every week. You want to know what they are working on. You want to see change you can actually point at, not a vague summary at the end of the year. And you want to be told the truth when something is not working, not fobbed off with corporate language.

How SCA works with parents and carers

You get a named contact from day one. Not a call centre, not a rotating case manager. One person who knows your young person’s name, your name, and the plan. When you ring 0480 800 521 during business hours, that person or someone briefed by them picks up.

We agree the communication rhythm with you at the start. Some families want a text after every session. Some want a Sunday email summary. Some want a fortnightly phone call. We do whichever you actually prefer, in whichever language works for the household. If English is your second language, tell us and we will keep things simple, or bring in an interpreter for planning meetings if that helps.

Before we start, we sit with you and the young person, look at the NDIS plan together, and translate it into what it means in practice. What is funded. What is not. What we can realistically work on this year. What we cannot. No jargon, no waffle.

What to expect in the first two weeks

Week one, we have an initial conversation on the phone or at your kitchen table. We ask about your young person, what has worked before, what has failed, and what you actually want out of this. If you have the NDIS plan, send it over and we will come back with a written suggestion of how mentoring, capacity building, or behaviour support fits.

Week two, if it is a good fit, we introduce one or two mentors and let the young person help choose. First session is scheduled. First update lands the day after that session in whichever format you asked for.

If we are not the right fit, we will tell you and, where we can, point you somewhere better. Honesty is cheaper than a bad match.

How to start

Book a free 15 minute chat, or send us the young person’s NDIS plan and we will come back with a plain-language suggestion of what would fit. Ring 0480 800 521 or email info@supportingcommunitiesaustralia.com. If it is easier to write in your own language and let us translate at our end, do that. We would rather understand you than have you struggle in English.
